Folio 99: MacKenzie to Townshend. I observe from Walpole's of the 30th past that I should make further enquiry into the detention of Collins. As I have written before and what I shall try to transmit now, are some of the circumstances which many pretend to have been aware of from the beginning, that induced the Czar to arrest his person and not his ships without tedious repetition I refer you to my letter of 24th to Tilson and that all Foreign Ministers urged me not to be silent any longer, only fearful that my conduct might be disapproved by you. I have, since I have been here, been in as bad a category as any, frightened of robbery and receiving only promises of redress. Dated St Petersburg, 27 Dec 1714.
