Folio 89: MacKenzie to Townshend. Baron Safirov returned late last Friday from his Embassy in Constantinople bringing with him Messrs. Bestuzev and Tolstoy, the first being sent there 3 years ago and the second more than seven, both in position of the Czar's Resident at the Porte. On Sunday the Czar was to hear a sermon, across the river at the Church near the Fortress, remaining a short while with Prince Dolgorukov, where I had the honour to present HM's letter to him. I am informed that Prince Menshikoff had levied and clothed a Regiment as a present for the Czar, at his own expense. Dated St Petersburg, 6 Dec 1714.
Repeat in French.
