Folio 79: MacKenzie to Townshend. Count Golovkin and the Czar considered it strange that I, not having been recalled, after so long have not been confirmed. After enquiring whether I had created any dislike, I said I had nothing positive from London and the Count seemed to like my frankness. If I had been confirmed, I would firstly complain of my lost trunk, of considerable value to me, of which I had so far no redress; and then of a very bad house at very high rent, needing 2 servants every night to guard it, no part of which has not been forced into at one time. Also the house and fixing should be changed as to be put on a similar level as the other envoys. Dated St Petersburg 10 Dec 1714.
