Folio 58: MacKenzie to Townshend. Attended the solemnities at the house of Prince Menshikoff, when the Czar showed great displeasure towards the Prince and left in a rage and later upbraided him regarding Holstein and the complaints lately received from Poland. The Prince has in four years exacted more than a million roubles from this province. As Field Marshal Czermetoff is also on the same trial, and enquiries are being made into reports against him in the Ukraine, the Czar does not know whom to trust. The Czar proposes to desire peace with Sweden but will fight to secure a favourable one if need be. Dated St Petersburg, 26 Nov 1714.
