Folio 54: MacKenzie to Townshend. Is credibly informed that the Czar, between the loss of his galleys and news of the Swedish King's return, and of Swedish strength in Pomerania, had ordered the hastening of Prince Menshikoff's process. The Senate has tried to accuse him of corruption and leading men here will try to make the Stettin treaty fall heavily on him as it is thought that Count Fleming bribed him in that affair. PS. trade can be carried on at Revel for six weeks longer in the year than at St Petersburg. Narva would be best for our trade but is now forsaken and no British ships or factors are there. Now that the Czar has leisure it is time to request that the British should trade at Riga on a par with the Dutch. Dated St Petersburg, 5 Nov 1714.
