Folio 48: MacKenzie to Townshend. Having done much to inform you fo the affair of Collins, an additional piece of information told me is that when the Czar visited Collins's ship, a great deal of talk took place in Russian, he being unaware that he could be understood. The reason for detention is perceptible but not clear. Will not trouble you with what you have presumably heard in more detail from other sources about the Admiral and the galleys; only that none have ventured to tell the Czar that an express arrived here on Sunday last to say that 18 were lost in a storm. PS. I am told that Naryskin is to take a present to HM, a sea compass of the Czar's own gradation, in a box turned by the Czar's own hand. Dated St Petersburg, 29 Oct 1714.
