Folio 40v: MacKenzie to Townshend. Sends the enclosed copy of what Francis Collings, merchant, of London has given as a Representation of his case. Assured there is no ground for suspicion. He desired me to offer the full consignment of one ship and be allowed to go back to England with the other. The whole Factory here affirm that the £14,000 was drawn on London, payable only on arrival and loading of ships there. The outcome may be a precedent and any governor may be capable of depriving the merchants of good markets and making them afraid of owning their own commodities. Has prevailed upon Mr. Collings to call on Prince Menshikoff next Sunday. Was summoned to Naryskin but thought other things such as Collins's detention preferable to attend to, although he is not only a Chamberlain but a relation of the Czar. PS. Today received from a master of a British Merchantman a Remonstrance that he required back his sailors who have been enticed away. No news of the Admiral. Uneasiness at whispers of one Galley taken by the Swedes. Dated St Petersburg, 22 Oct 1714.
