Description

Folio 270: Whitworth to St. John. Czar has notified King Augustus [of Poland] of ratification of treaty with Turks. Hereditary Prince Alexis to command Muscovite troops. Treaty ratified in Moscow, but still kept secret. Doubt about evacuation of Poland. Negotiations over Duchy of Kerland; financial circumstances of Duchess Dowager Anna and her projected marriage to Prince Christian of Prussia. Rumours that King [Charles] of Sweden may not return home. Wedding of Field-Marshal Sheremetoff. News of death of Czar's half-sister and great fire in Moscow. Details of planned settlement at Petersburg. Russian shipping movements. Preparations for Muscovite expedition to Karelia and Finland. Denial by Czar of designs on Danzig. Headed `Foreign Cypher' Dated Petersburg, 26 May/6 June 1712.
