Folio 253: Whitworth to St. John. Russian shipping movements and provisions. Dangerous passage of Czar. Encloses extract of letter from Goodfellow about new bargain for tar and a translation of a contract with the Russian Government, extract of a letter from Mr. Meux. [Merchant] and two others dating from 1706. Negotiations over the passage of hemp. Details of resolution sent by States-General requesting better treatment for Dutch merchant King Augustus [of Poland] requests interview with Czar. Rumours of Prince Menschikoff's preparations against Danzig: Russians still refuse to give details of intentions there to Poles. Part played by England and Allies in confirming Muscovite/Turkish treaty. Remaining danger from Sweden. Dated Petersburg, 6/17 May 1712.
