Description

This series consists of enrolments of pleas in cases relating to first fruits and tenths, with the judgements thereon made by the barons of the Exchequer, which were drawn up in the office of the remembrancer of first fruits.

The majority of cases followed the issue of Exchequer process against incumbents for failure either to compound for first fruits, or, having compounded, to pay the sums due at the four terms stated in the bonds given as part of the composition process, or to pay tenths or arrears of tenths. Most cases came to court only when the liability itself was contested. The series is not complete.
