Description

The counterparts, retained by the Trustees, of the sale of the fee farm and manorial rents of the Crown, authorised by Act of Parliament in 1650.

Each document, except for a few defective ones, carries a date on which the 25 trustees, listed individually, agree to sell to a purchaser, named and addressed, for a stated price, the Crown rent, itemised and located, and the original grant of it particularised (most of them were made in Tudor times). The purchasers range from leading parliamentary politicians, generals, civil servants and gentry, to merchants, craftsmen and spinsters, many resident in the metropolitan area.
