Bombardment of Kagosima Including Attack on the Batteries Destruction of the Steamers and Burning of City & Foundry': map showing details of a naval engagement, including the tracks and positions of named British and Japanese ships. Reference table to batteries. Lists of returns of: (i) armaments, tonnage and casualties of British ships; and (ii) steamers purchased by Prince Satsuma and destroyed on 15 August 1863. Scale: 21 inches to 1 degree of latitude. Compass indicator. Copied from an original map signed by Captain Frederick Brine, Royal Engineers, at sea aboard HMS Euryalus, 26 August 1863, and forwarded by the Deputy Adjutant General. Stamped at the Topographical Department, War Office, 12 November 1864. Originally illustrating a report by Captain Brine, 26 August 1863; this report is not filed with the map.
