Spanish Netherlands: Veurne (or Furnes; now in Belgium). Map showing the disposition of besieging forces, including those fighting under the Irish commanders Berwick, Bulkley, Clare, Dillon and Rothe. The War Office map docket book (which was the original means of reference to the War Office maps) gives the date as 1744 [presumably derived from WO 78/1006/17], which is implausible as the date of the siege since all of the named commanders are known to have served in Flanders during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) and Clare died in 1706; the map itself may, however, date from some time later than the siege that it depicts.
