To Arnold. Is grieved to hear of Phillips' death; had ordered Arnold to the Nottoway to prevent an action with the Marquess; is to leave his corps where it now is, but bring the cavalry to Cornwallis at Butler's Bridge next morning; wants the commanding officer at Portsmouth assured that Cornwallis will make every effort to succor him if it is necessary.
