E 211
c1101-1645
This series is made up of those deeds which were too large to fit into the standard-sized envelopes used for the deeds in E 210. The distinction between this series and the main body of ancient deeds lodged with the King's Remembrancer is thus in principle purely a matter of size. The origins of the two series are more or less the same: all appear to consist chiefly of material brought to the Exchequer either to justify entries on the discharge side of audited accounts or for use as evidence in processes brought before the Court of the Exchequer.
The series, which is arranged haphazardly, is predominantly made up of conveyancing deeds, although there are significant numbers of wills and bonds. Most of the records once formed part of private muniments and includes material from the estate archives of Sir John Perrot, Robert Becket of Cartuther, and Canons Ashby Priory.
