This series comprises a disparate collection of personal and semi-official papers brought together from several different parts of the Exchequer, where they had been preserved by reason of custody or function. They include exhibits in equity causes heard in the Exchequer.

The papers are those of the Fanshawe family, King's Remembrancers for much of the 17th century and the latter half of the 16th century; papers of the Heneage family and their agent, Richard Eton, relating both to private financial matters and to the custom of the port of London under Henry VIII (1509-47) and Edward VI (1547-53); papers concerning the default of Richard Stonley, teller of the Exchequer, 1554-1598, on his accounts; private office papers of John Maddocks, an attorney in the Court of Requests under Elizabeth I (1558-1603); papers of Major General Arthur Wavell concerning speculation in mines in Mexico; a miscellany of papers of Richard Bidlake, professional charlatan and litigant; household, estate and legal papers of Robert Rich, earl of Holland and 5th earl of Warwick (d 1679) and of his son, Edward; household bills and accounts of the Catholic peer, Robert Lord Petre (d 1801); papers of Benjamin Hanson, orange merchant, at the time of the Napoleonic wars; an accumulation of personal papers, private office papers and papers concerning searches in the records of successive deputy chamberlains and keepers of records in the Chapter House, particularly of John Lawton and Abraham Farley; and private office and personal papers of Edward Ward, chief baron of the Exchequer, and previously treasurer of the Inner Temple.
