Enrolment books relating to the New Street Commissioners. This is a separate series of enrolment books which was kept for the work of the New Street Commissioners, who had been appointed in 1813 to build a road and sewer from Marylebone Park, Middlesex, to Charing Cross, Westminster (53 George III, c 121). This road was to be named Regent Street and subsequent acts gave the commissioners powers to develop a large part of the Charing Cross area (see 7 George IV, c 77).
They have copies of the deeds of purchase of lands acquired by the commissioners in order to carry out their work, as well as of leases of lands unnecessary for their purposes, dating from 1814 to 1832. The volumes are indexed in IND 1/7638.
