Description

Extents and inquisitions from various writ file series, mainly unsorted. Most of the early documents in this series relate to proceedings by extent in aid, whereby process was used by Crown debtors for the recovery of debts due to them. Though originally intended to ensure satisfaction of the Crown debt, it was open to abuse and was curtailed by statute in 1817.

The other documents in the series are extents for the recovery of bona fide Crown debts, issued on behalf of the several revenue boards.
