Description

This series comprises extents, inquisitions and valors mainly of lands forfeited to the Crown.

They were made in response to commissions and writs under the great and Exchequer seals, which also often survive, and were returned to the King's Remembrancer in the Exchequer. Most of the material relates to periods of political disturbance in the 14th century and includes records of the lands of the Knights Templar, the supporters of Thomas of Lancaster known as 'Contrariants', the Despensers, and Roger Mortimer and his adherents.
