Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries individual decrees continue to show evidence of correction and amendment. They were annotated by the clerk for the party or his agent with a note of entry and copy, and sometimes with an indication of fees paid.

Contemporary index books survive from 1677 in IND 1/16862-16866. Before 1677 the calendars and other means of reference to the entry books of decrees can be used as a means of reference to decrees registered, and the files searched speculatively: a task made easier in that the sequence of entry follows the file order.
