Description (What the record is about)
-
This series consists of files of draft and copy decrees and orders made in equity and revenue causes heard on the King's Remembrancer's side of the Exchequer. These were entered, with omissions, in the entry books of decrees and orders. The series is incomplete.
The files include many orders which were not entered in the entry books, either through clerical inefficiency or because the fees had not been paid. The file drafts should be regarded as the authoritative text.
A few of the 16th-century files contain additions, such as letters in the nature of warrants, or in explanation of orders, addressed to either the chancellor of the Exchequer or to the King's Remembrancer.

- OBS 1/424 is an index for 1634-1642. The various indexes to the entry books can, to a limited extent, be used as an index to the files, since by the seventeenth century the files of decrees and orders were being filed in strict date order.
