Folio 294: Whitworth to Stanhope. Reminder of the Convention of the Three Villages and use to which it is being put by the Prussians; the progress of the negotiation of the article for the security of Prussia. Ilgen balks at the clause of mutual obligation; (draftsenclosed, ff.280, 282, 302, 304) Whitworth suggests he may adjust it in any reasonable way. Whitworth receives no answer from Ilgen. Ilgen and others of the court return to the trials at Spandau. Whitworth's opinion of the reason for the delay: he feels the Prussians underestimate the strength of the Swedes. Whitworth's opinion that it is necessary to come to an understanding with Sweden and break off the negotiations at Aland. Slippenbagch/Schlippenbach expected to depart for Petersburg. Return of Maash. Arrival at Berlin of the Lord Marshal of the Court of Saxony; his conference with Ilgen and attack on the Poles. Enclosure of information communicated by Loos (ff. 284 and 306). Whitworth thinks the Irishman mentioned is Sir Patrick Lawless. From Berlin
