Description

Folio 216: Whitworth to Stanhope. Informed by Kniphausen that the king would grant an audience; taken to the king at Charlottenburg. King accepted King George's resolution to have a declaration instead of the 7th article, and the other offered amendments, includingHeusch's two projects and the proposed secret article regarding a money settlement. Kniphausen gave his opinions on various matters relating to the Czar: Whitworth withdraws from the discussion. Ilgen also seems favourably disposed to the new projects. Whitworth optimistic, but wary of Tolstoy, with whom Whitworth, the king, and Ilgen have had several discussions. Rothembourg informed of developments, and continues an ally; he shows Whitworth the despatches of Abbé Dubois who offers advice for the manipulation of the King of Prussia. Rothembourg has requested Abbé Dubois to send him the necessary Full Powers and Project of the Guarantee to be given by France to England and Prussia, and requests secrecy. Departure of Count Dohna for the country, after encouragement by Whitworth. Printz is of same opinion, but Whitworth considers the other ministers keep him from foreign affairs. Conclusion of trial of Clement and others who await sentencing. Embassy of the duke of Holstein at present in Berlin, although no explanation of his commission. From Berlin
