Description

Folio 107: Raby to [Hedges]. Acknowledges receipt of mail. The Emperor, having recognized Frederick I, should not be surprised by the latter's military aspirations. Prussian troops' behaviour at Schwemmingen. Likelihood of Cologne and Bavarian neutrality. FrederickI's hostility towards States General, even to the extent of promising Queen Anne help against them in the event of war; Raby warns of repercussions from France. Princess of Nassau remains firm on question of succession. Chamber of Wetzlar has pronounced decision on Meues and Lingen. Effect of Queen Anne's payment of the Emperor's subsidy. Plea for confidentiality of news in cipher. Frederick threatens to recall his envoy [Wolfgang von Schmettau] from the Hague, unless the Dutch send representation to Berlin. Prussian confidence increased by treaty with Sweden; does not yet know how other powers have reacted. Frederick's assurance about Danzig; he promises to mediate between Poland and Sweden, his desire to command an army personally on the Moselle; his appreciation of Queen Anne's charity to Orange; remains adamant about evacuation of Nordhausen. Raby in danger of being suspected as pro-Hanover if he pursues the question of Nordhausen much more. Lüneburg-Wolfenbüttel disputes continues; hopes for success of Busch's mission. Prussian reaction to losses at Schwemmingen. From Berlin
