This section consists of writs capias, arrestes and the like, ordering the capture and detention of individuals for specified offences until certain conditions had been fulfilled or until the king's pleasure be further known. The reasons for their issueare varied, from the insurrection of the contrariants (File 1 nos. 8-11, 16.) to a clerk accepting a papal provision without royal licence (File 1 no. 21.) and they include an order for the hue and cry raised against Roger Mortimer of Wigmore. (File 1 nos. 12.) Several writs from the reign of Richard II onwards attempted to enforce the statute 15 Richard II c.2 which required the arrest by justices of persons who had forcibly entered property.
