Description

This series contains miscellanea from the Durham Court of Pleas. Comprises appearance in ejectment cases; cognovits, and warrants of attorney, in both cases signifying a defendant's concession of the plaintiff's case, usually in claims for debt; court dockets calendaring its business and naming cases and attorneys appearing; posteas, reporting the outcome of cases tried at nisi prius; the prothonotary's collection of affidavits, bills and orders of costs and petitions; jury lists with venire writs to the sheriff to secure jury panels for court cases; and a selection of writs c1765-1840 issued by the Court of Pleas: all these records except the earliest venires date from the 1690s to the 1860s.
