The Regional Nurse Training Committees were succeeded by Interim Educational Advisory Groups (IEAG) for each of the fourteen Health Regions of England and Wales, under the control of the English and Welsh National Boards for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, on the demise of the General Nursing Council on 30 June 1983. They were non-statutory temporary bodies, created for twenty-one months (1 July 1983-31 March 1984), pending the creation of more permanent successors to the RNTCs.
