This series contains detailed reports of tests carried out by the Road Research Laboratory on road construction methods and materials. The World War papers concern, as well, the study of engineering problems in civil defence and work undertaken for government departments.
Later papers, those in the LN, RN, TN series, concern road construction and also the wider aspects of road safety and traffic flow. Some reports of road conditions in developing countries are to be found in the RN series.
Firstly wartime material in serial letter order, then the RL series of reports of work carried out for the Ministry of Transport from 1933-1941, followed by laboratory reports in the RN series 1933-1962, LN series 1962-1965, and TN series 1965-1973.
