Administrative / biographical background

The Co-ordinating Committee for Radio Requirements was set up to consider proposed changes to navigational equipment requirements. These requirements are articulated as British Civil Airworthiness Requirements and constitute the basis for the issue of approvals and certificates required by the Air Navigation Order.

The committee was set up in 1978 within the CAA's Safety Services Group and its terms of reference may be summarised as follows: 1. To consider proposals for amendments of, and additions to, airworthiness requirements for British civil aircraft and, subject to the advice of the Technical Committee of the Airworthiness Requirements Board, to approve them for publication in British Civil Airworthiness Requirements. 2. To recommend to the Civil Aviation Authority and to the Minister of Defence such action as appears necessary to co-ordinate the airworthiness standards specified for military transport aircraft developed under Ministry of Defence contract and those specified in the British Civil Airworthiness Requirements. 3. To consider proposals for submissions to be made to the International Civil Aviation Organisation in regard to radio equipment and systems in aircraft.
