The CAA Papers were originally issued by order of publication; CAA Paper 76041 denotes the 41st commissioned report of the year 1976. Reports preserved in the PRO will not follow this order as they were not originally stored in this order. Papers will be arranged in numerical order by each accession.

Separated material

Those CAA papers marked "Commercial in confidence" have not been transferred to the PRO. These are kept at CAA Central Library and there are restrictions on their use by the public.

Series is accruing. Civil Aviation Authority, Central Library has archived reports (CAA Papers) starting from number 80001 and dating from 1980. An estimated 95 % of reports commissioned prior to 1980 have also been archived at the Library.

All reports which are not classified as 'Commercial in confidence' are due to be selected for preservation.
Administrative / biographical background

All Civil Aviation Authority and National Air Traffic Service departments were able to tender and publish reports on particular subjects of interest. However, most were submitted to the Library by the research and development departments.
