Administrative / biographical background

The Light Aeroplane Co-ordinating Committee is concerned with the preparation and approval of airworthiness requirements for British civil light aircraft, and the co-ordination of the requirements with standards for light military aircraft.

The committee was originally formed in 1965 under the auspices of the Air Registration Board (ARB) and continued when the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) took over the functions of the board in 1972.

Its terms of reference are: to consider proposals for the introduction and amendment of, and additions to airworthiness requirements for British civil aeroplanes having a maximum weight not exceeding 12,500 lbs and, subject to the concurrence of the Design and Construction Committee, to approve them for publication in British Civil Airworthiness Requirements; andwhenever considered appropriate, to recommend such action as appears necessary to co-ordinate the airworthiness standards specified for military transport aeroplanes having a maximum weight not exceeding 12,500 lbs and for aeroplanes specified in British Civil Airworthiness Requirements.
