All aircraft on the British Civil Register have to satisfy strict and comprehensive airworthiness requirements. These are drawn up by the Civil Aviation Authority's Airworthiness Division Requirements Section and its successor the Safety Regulation Group, in consultation with manufacturers and other interested parties. The requirements are formally embodied in British Civil Airworthiness Requirements (BCAR) and, for supersonic aircraft, in Transports Supersonique Standards (TSS).
