This series contains files of the Commonwealth Relations Office's Economic Policy Department and its successors the Economic General Department. It includes papers relating to the Commonwealth Economic Consultative Committee. Until 1962 when a separate Common Market Department (CMD) was formed, the EP series contains files relating to the UK negotiations to enter the EEC, Euratom and the European Coal and Steel Community, and Commonwealth reactions to those negotiations. The series deals with economic matters concerning the whole Commonwealth to 1965, at which time the General Department was replaced by a number of geographical economic departments.
