An Establishment Department was set up in 1947 as part of the new Commonwealth Relations Office. It dealt with general establishment matters, organisation and methods reviews, planning, staffing and recruitment and the administration of the Commonwealth diplomatic service. In 1960 the Establishment Department ceased to exist when it was split into Administration and Personnel Departments.
