Description

Short Title: Johnson v Earl of Coventry.

Plaintiff(s): Alan Johnson esq, Richard Ryther, Poplewell Steer esq and Cornelius Stovin esq, tenants of the manor of Epworth in the Isle of Axholme (Lincolnshire), on behalf of themselves and all other persons, tenants of said manor, and Jonathan Vaux, John Chesman, William Root, Edward Kershaw.

Defendant(s): The Rt Hon George William, Earl of Coventry, and The Rt Hon Thomas, Lord Viscount Weymouth, and The Rt Hon Henry Frederick, Lord Carteret, and Elizabeth Hutton, widow, and William Hutton esq, and HM's Attorney General.

Depositions for: Plaintiffs and Defendants.

Subject of Depositions: The manor of Epworth in the Isle of Axholme (Lincolnshire) of which John, Earl Granville, after him his eldest son Robert, Earl Granville, were reputed lords and now the defendant Carteret, cousin of said Robert is lord, and the wastes and commons belonging; title under which lands within said manor have been held by "persons called the participants" and by the commoners of Misterton (Nottinghamshire); rights of soil of commons claimed by the lords of said manor; metes and bounds; inclosures; encroachments on common; customs of manor, etc.
