Description

Short Title: Rodgkins v Bishop of Durham.

Plaintiff(s): Benjamin Rodgskin, esq.

Defendant(s): The Right Reverend Father in God, John Lord Bishop of Durham, and the capital burgesses or freemen and the inferior burgesses or stallengers of the borough of Sunderland near the Sea, Christopher Teasdale, John Jackson, James Smithson, tailor, Richard Pemberton, gent, Anne Wilkinson, William Blackiston, John Russell Greenhill, clerk, his wife Elizabeth Greenhill, and others.

Depositions for: Plaintiff.

Subject of Depositions: The Corporation of Sunderland which is said to consist of twelve freemen or capital burgesses and eighteen inferior burgesses or stallengers, and the moors, waste grounds and commons belonging called The Town Moor Intake and Coney Warren, etc; touching the rights and privileges of said Corporation; particularly the right of the capital burgesses to make rules and bye laws without the concurrence of the stallengers; touching a purchase of waste ground made by the freemen (each on his own account) for the site of the parish church of Sunderland; customs, usages and privileges, etc.
