The authenticity of two deeds made by William Middleton: one conveying the manor and park of Stockeld alias Stockell, and all the messuages and lands in the parish of Spoferth, to Edward Stanley, by whom they were assigned to Mr Owtinge and Mr Ingleby; and the other, the manor of Manby, and all the messuages and lands in the parish of Kirkby super Wiske, to John Townley, by whom they were assigned to Michael Steele, Francis Gatenby and Henry Michaell. Whether the manor of Stockeld includes the whole parish of Spoferth? Referring to an inquisition concerning the lands in Spoferth, dated 17 Sep 42 Eliz. Yorks.
