Description

Short title: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster v Armyn.

Plaintiffs: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Defendants: Dame Mary Armyn.

Documents: depositions concerning the rights of inhabitants to cut wood in Birchwood in Cromford, Derbyshire.

Taken 25 February, 18 Chas II.

Deponents for plaintiffs: John Wiggley of Cromford, yeoman, aged 46, deposed that Francis Chapman, a miner of Wirksworth was sued by Sir William Armyn over 20 years ago and 'one Barber' was sent to prison. Since he was a 'poore man' Sir William 'wished that they would bringe him such psons as had woll upon their backes [...] Barber made an escape out of prison and afterwards was tyed at a horse taile' [wished that they would bring him such persons as had wool upon their backs [...] Barber made an escape out of prison and afterwards was tied at a horse's tail]; Mary Seedus of Cromford, widow, aged 56.

Deponents for defendants: John Wiggley of Matlock, yeoman, aged 46, deposed that a cottage was erected on Cromford moor; Mary Seedus of Cromford, widow, aged 56.
