Description

Short title: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster v Kirke.

Plaintiffs: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster at the relation of Thomas Barber.

Defendants: Thomas Kirke.

Documents: depositions concerning Chinley, Derbyshire.

Taken 14 May, 6 Charles I.

Deponents for plaintiffs: James Carrington of Bugsworth, gentleman, aged 50, whose memory goes back 20 years [to 1611], deposed that it appeared by 'a booke broughte into the said County of Derby' by Peter Bradshawe that the Maystonfield, alias Chinleys, had been granted by the Duchy of Lancaster to Edward Badbie and William Wheeldon as a free farm; Thomas Bowden of Coatebuke, yeoman, aged 40, whose memory goes back 20 years [to 1611]; Thomas Yeaveley of Whitehaughhead, gentleman, aged 33, whose memory goes back 20 years [to 1611]; George Ward of Browneside, yeoman, aged 58, whose memory goes back 30 years [to 1601]; William Barber of Thorsettfield, yeoman, aged 47, whose memory goes back 40 years [to 1591]; William Barber junior of Clough, yeoman, aged 30; Robert Higham of Godley, Cheshire, husbandman, aged 52.

Deponents for defendants: George Hadfield of Ridge Popp, yeoman, aged 60, whose memory goes back 12 years [to 1619]; John Bowden of Wheston, yeoman, aged 68, whose memory goes back 20 years [to 1611]; Raphe Cantrell of Wheston, yeoman, aged 35, whose memory goes back 10 years [to 1621].
