Deponents for plaintiffs: John Brushfield of Grindleford, miner, aged 50, deposed that he has worked in Stoolegrove for 16 years. That between the time time that John and William Dam and others first entered the grove and the death of the Earl of Shrewsbury there was lead ore 'gotten or drawne upp at the shaft mouth or mouthes of the said grove and a halfe to the valewe of 2. thousand pounds or better' [gotten or drawn up at the shaft mouth or mouths of the said grove and a hald to the value of 2 thousand pounds or better]. Within that time 'he hath knowen 40 loads of lead oare gotten and drawne upp at the shaft or mouth of the said grove and a halfe within one weeke' [he had known 40 loads of lead oar gotten up and drawn up at the shaft or mouth of the said grove and a half within one week]; Francis Gallot of Grindleford Bridge, miner, aged 30, [he supports the claims of the owner to the mine], deposed that 'he was a wokman wthin the said grove and did gett a greate quantitie of lead ore there' [he was a workman within the said grove and did get a great quantity of lead ore there]; John Stone of Stoney Middleton, miner, aged 36, deposed that £2000 worth of lead ore has been dug out of the mine; Robert Hill of Eyam, yeoman, aged 37, deposed that the quality of ore in the veins differed; Nicholas Chapman of Grindleford, yeoman, aged 36.
Deponents for defendants: James Stone of Stoney Middleton, deposed that he sold a quarter and a half share of a third meere to John Bowne for £4; Richard Steverdor, innholder of Eyam, aged 45, deposed that he was deputy barmaster of Eyam; John Sheldon of Foolow, miner, aged 52.
