Description

Short title: Tenants of Biggin and of Hartington v Ferrers.

Plaintiffs: John Sleigh, Hyde and others, tenants, freeholders and copyholders of Biggin and of the Manor of Hartington.

Defendants: Sir John Ferrers and others.

Documents: depositions (originally with two plans) concerning Cardle Hay and Horelowe etc, parcels of land in Biggin and Hartington, Derbyshire. Two coloured plans of Hartington, c. 1612, showing various parcels of disputed land and common lands in Derbyshire and Staffordshire: these are now filed at MPC 1/274.

Taken 25 August, 10 James I.

Deponents for plaintiffs: Arthur Swindell of Monyash, miner, aged 60; Richard Waterfall of Ashleyhay, husbandman, aged 56; William Bennet of Stanage Grange, husbandman, aged 60; Thomas Shene of Biggin, husbandman, aged 65

Deponents for defendants: George Hodgkinson of Ashover, yeoman, aged 52, whose memory goes back 40 years [to 1572]; George Ruddiard of Middleton by Youlgreave, husbandman, aged 46, whose memory goes back 'always' [to 1566]; John Bonsall of Heathcoate, husbandman, aged 60, whose memory goes back 40 years [1571]; Thomas Buxton of Bradborne, husbandman, aged 63; Edward Woolley of Brassington, shepherd, aged 60.
