Description

Short title: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster v Dakin.

Plaintiffs: Attorney General at the relation of Sir James Croft.

Defendants: Thomas Dakin.

Documents: depositions concerning church lands of Fairfield, Derbyshire.

Taken 31 August, 27 Eliz.

Deponents for defendants: William Dakin of Fairfield, husbandman, aged 65, deposed that he has seen a document of 1531 concerning the funding of a priest to say a service in the chapel, the lands have belonged to the chapel since that date; William Conrell of Fairfield, husbandman; Christopher Goodwin of Fairfield, husbandman, aged 4 score [80 years], whose memory of the area goes back 60 years [to 1525], deposed that the priest does not have rights over the land and that rents were paid to the Vernons of Haddon. The chapel of Fairfield is a chapel of rest. Marriages, christening and burials were carried out in Hope parish church; Richard Goodwin of Fairfield, husbandman, aged 3 score and 10 [70 years]; Richard Goodwin of Cowhow, yeoman, age 3 score and 5 [65 years], whose memory goes back 55 years [to 1530]; George Goodwin of Cowhow, yeoman, aged 3 score [60], whose memory goes back 40 years [to 1545].
