Deponents for defendants: Robert Dakin of Stadon, husbandman, aged 70, deposed that John Greene, the great grandfather of the complainant, died on the messuage now in question; Thomas Heathcoate of Cowdale, yeoman, aged 68; Oliver Smith of Buxton, yeoman, aged 96; John Morewood of Stadon, yeoman, aged 73; Christopher Gooden of Fairfield, husbandman, aged 80, whose memory goes back 60 years [to 1524], deposed that he heard gossip that John Greene's son was not legitimate 40 years ago from Isabel Hulme; Humphrey Buxton of Chelmorton, husbandman, aged 80; George Needham of Chelmorton, husbandman, aged 76 deposed that he heard gossip regarding the descent of title to land that John Greene's son was not legitimate. He heard this when he was 10 years old; Edward Simpson of Kings Sterndale, husbandman, aged 60, whose memory goes back 40 years [to 1544]; Renold Torre of Buxton, yeoman, aged 40, whose memory goes back 20 years [to 1564]."
