Description

Short title: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster v Bradborne.

Plaintiffs: Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Defendants: Sir Humphrey Bradborne.

Documents: depositions concerning Parwich moor, Derbyshire.

Commissioners for depositions certify 'that there was a greate number of witnesses redy at the daye and place [appointed] w[hi]ch offered to have deposed to the like effecte as in before wch for want of tyme we did omitt[...] also we [...]duo certifie[...] that ther was shewed unto us certen books of accompts touching the soke of workesworthe' [that there was a great number of witnesses ready at the day and place which offered to depose to the like effect as in before which for want of time we did omit. Also we do certify that there was showed unto us certain books of account touching the sake of Wirksworth]; Richard Tomlinson of Ertewicke, aged 60 or thereabouts, deposed that he was born in Parwich and that Sir Humphrey, his father John and his grandfather Humphrey have time out of mind held a cottage on Parwich Moor which has entitled them to rights of common. Tenants have kept sheep on the wastes in Ballidon, adjoining Parwich, and an ox or cow to pasture on the commons called Hawkeslowe; Thomas Alsopp of Alsopp, gentleman, aged 74 or thereabouts; Thomas Mason of Tisington, husbandman, ageed 70, [whose memory goes back 50 years to 1518] [unclear of the details]; Thomas Alsopp of Brassington, husbandman, aged 70; Chris Dakin of Bradley, husbandman, aged 80; Humphrey Alsopp of Monyash, husbandman, deposed that he keeps sheep on Parwich moor; John Sharp of Tissington, husbandman, aged 80 or thereabouts.
