Newgate Prison, Sale of to City of London: The Prison Commissioners and the Corporation of London. The site of the prison, formerly belonging to the City of London, was by the Prison Act 1877 vested in the Prison Commissioners. The female portion of the prison was reconveyed to the Corporation of London in 1880, and the male portion in 1901. New accommodation was provided at Brixton for the transfer of prisoners. Copy correspondence, conveyance etc.
