Public Schools Act 1868. Petition to the Queen in Council against certain provisions of the Act, under which the powers of the existing governing bodies of public schools were transferred to special Commissioners, and which laid down that membership of the Church of England should be a necessary qualification for appointment to the governing body of a school. The petitions were from Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow, Rugby and Shrewsbury Public Schools.
