Crown Jewels. King of Hanover v. Attorney-General: Claim on part of the King of Hanover to the jewels valued at £54,900 bequeathed conditionally by Queen Charlotte as heirlooms to the House of Hanover, but it was held that as they had been acquired with public money they became public property and as such a part of the inalienable property of the Crown. Present: extracts from the history of Hanover and Brunswick: transcript, in part, of the law proceedings: copies of the Wills of George II, Queen Charlotte and the Duchess Sophia Dorothea, and copy extracts from the Will of George III: history of the Wills of reigning sovereigns from the Norman Conquest to George I. (Mention is made of the loss of all the crown jewels during the Civil War, such loss being declared by Parliament in 1642, which stated that they had been pawned or sold in Amsterdam.): Some interesting specifications of the crown jewels claimed by Hanover.
