Chirograph indented made between Richard Crofte of Wodestok, esquire of the body to the king, of the one part, and John Vowell, doctor of law, of the other part, witnessing that they have agreed that if Hugh Crofte, son of the said Richard, die in his lifetime, Isabel, Hugh's wife, being then alive, Richard shall within three months after Hugh's death provide for Isabel an estate of the yearly value of 20 marks in Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire or Berkshire for her life, or else shall pay her 130l.; provision (partly illegible) as to lands of Thomas Rodney, Isabel's father, in Bristol and its suburbs; and if Richard make to Hugh and Isabel, or to her alone, a jointure of 20l. or a larger estate to them of the same value, he shall be discharged of the covenants contained in this indenture. 29 June, 2 Richard III.
