Description (What the record is about)
-
This series consists of expedition files of the Keeper of Entomology but contain the correspondence of many members of the Department. There are files of correspondence, papers and reports produced as a result of collecting expeditions and voyages. Some relate to expeditions organised and financed by the Museum, others to expeditions organised by some other institution or individual, but supported and staffed by the Museum. The largest number of files relate to expeditions run independently of the Museum, but which received equipment and advice, and which donated their collections.
Series held at The Natural History Museum are catalogued more fully in its online catalogue (reference DF ENT/305). Online descriptions of some individual records can also be viewed on Discovery, see DF 305.
-
Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)
-
The files were not registered but were kept in a series of expedition boxes. DF 305/59-61 are the reorganised remains of a series of yearly expedition files, which have survived intact for 1963-1970 (DF 305/62-69). Papers in the collecting station files (DF 305/73-86) appear to have been removed from the general expedition files for easy reference.
