Description (What the record is about)
-
This series contains material from a variety of sources relating to the department's scientific and popular publications.
Original artwork, both coloured and black and white, corrected proofs and typescripts are included, as well as correspondence and memoranda relating to the production, sale and revision of the various items. The series contains little, if any, scientific correspondence.
Departments were responsible for their own publications until 1954, when R J Drumm was appointed Museum Publications Officer to coordinate planning and production. A Publications Section evolved over the years until, by 1975, all publications planning and production was carried out centrally.
Series held at The Natural History Museum are catalogued more fully in its online catalogue (reference DF PAL/109). Online descriptions of some individual records can also be viewed on Discovery, see DF 109.
